This will be a quick post, but I’m so excited about the (possibly) awesome news that I wanted to share it with the world! Even though I launched Ghost Editorial last July, I made it “Facebook Official” just this past week. Since creating my business page, I’ve garnered an impressive 116 likes. (Admittedly, most of these came from friends and family. We have to start somewhere!) After a very perfunctory search of other copyeditors/copyediting businesses on Facebook, I found that I am one of the most liked in all of Facebook Land! Before you roll your eyes and move on to more impressive news of the day, let me explain what I know to be true about this great accomplishment:
1. I know that 116 likes is but one drop in the ubiquitous ocean of Facebook.
2. I now know that I don’t exactly have a lot of competition. However, with the 1000s upon 1000s of copyeditors in this country, I don’t know how it is possible that I could be one of the few to actually leverage FB to promote my business. I’m actually a bit disappointed that there weren’t more copyeditors with FB pages. Maybe I just did a really terrible search. Maybe copyeditors just use their personal pages to advertise their services?
3. I know that copyediting isn’t the sexiest industry out there, and thus, no one is really seeking out copyeditors to follow and/or like online. Maybe I can bring the sexy back into copyediting? I’m not sure if I’m really qualified to do that, but I could give it a shot.
4. If it turns out that there really are many other copyeditors on FB with more followers/likes, please let me know so that I can: A. Take this post down, and B. Stalk them so that I can thoughtfully observe and then shamelessly appropriate the secrets of their online success.
In the meantime, if you’re on FB and want to follow my page, just click the “like box” on the side of the page. Or, you can click on www.facebook.com/ghosteditorial.
